November 2006 re:mix, Singapore's latest musical force
When hypnotic sounds of an acoustic guitar combines with a symphony of string orchestra, it's magical. Newly-formed re:mix from Singapore performed for the very first time in Sabah, on November 24, 2006 at the Kian Kok Secondary School Auditorium, featuring guest artistes like Roger and the renowned Kota Kinabalu Symphony Orchestra conductor Yap Ling.

Led by violinist Foo Say Ming (far left), re: mix is a gathering of Singapore's finest chamber musicians, the latest musical force in town. During its official launch on December 22, 2006 at Singapore's Esplanade, re:mix will present a program befitting its name, a repertoire that mixes the music of popular culture, dance, and film, with the classical genre.

The NBT Acoustic Series with
Farid Ali a.k.a. Mr. Gambus
As the days draw closer to the launch of Roger and Farid Ali's inaugural album, the duo took time off producing "No Strings Attached" to perform at No Black Tie's Acoustic Series on August 24. Performing a number of songs from their upcoming album, the duo threw in some new tunes - just for the heck of it.

On the album, Roger said, "Farid and I have been talking about this project since the first time we sat down and jammed with each other back in August 2004. We finally found the time to get this going early this year. Hopefully, if all goes well, the album will be out by November 2006,"

3rd Annual Johor Arts Festival 2006
Roger and Mia Palencia, better known as Double Take, took Johor by storm when they performed onstage here for the very first time together! The duo performed during the second day of the 10-day Arts Fest that's running from August 14 - 26, 2006. Performing before an audience of 200, including the Honourable City Mayor, Double Take entertained the audience at the Dewan Jubli Intan with their repertoire of jazz classics and even threw in the crowd-favourite, Mengapa Kasih.

Earlier that day, Roger conducted a complimentary workshop for the Double Take concert ticket holders in the same hall. It was attended by "a few guys and a cockroach", said Roger. See Roger's wife's blog for more details on the guitar-playing roach.

The 3rd Annual Johor Arts Festival 2006 is organised by the Johor Society for Performing Arts.

Double Take @ Equatorial Hotel's Summer Jazz Series
"Back from a sabbatical and ready to wow the crowd with new songs and new tricks!" the ad screamed. "Wow", they did. Four nights of great music, guest musicians and side-splitting laughter. And if you've missed all four nights (July 26 - 29, 2006), we'd just like to say that you've not only missed Double Take's inaugural 2006 concert, you've also missed hearing Roger sing!

Double Take (Double Take, Brabons Entertainment) fans were delighted; the winning combination of Roger and Mia Palencia never fails to please. This year, guest musicians joined them onstage during the second half. They were: Kevin Choo on sax (July 26), Llew Marsh on piano (July 27), Jamie Wilson on guitar (July 28) and Razak on percussions (July 29).

First Malaysian Guitarist in Taiwan
Roger became the first Malaysian finger style guitarist to perform in Taiwan when he joined internationally-a
cclaimed Belgian finger style guitarist Jacques Stotzem (left) and Taiwan's master finger style guitar teacher Huang Chia Wei (centre) for the Taiwan Open Strings Solo Guitar Concert 2006 tour.

The seven-day tour, organised by Huang, began on April 23, 2006 and brought the three guitarists to seven towns throughout the island nation.

Performing before hundreds of Taiwanese guitar enthusiasts in universities and clubs, Roger kicked off his segment of every concert with his rendition of popular Malaysian tune by the legendary late Tan Sri P. Ramlee, Bunyi Gitar. He continued to dazzle local audiences with his versatility and dexterity by playing songs like Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from the famous musical Nutcracker and Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror on his guitar.

"Playing a new audience always gives me a new perspective (on my music) and opens up fresh opportunities," Roger says.

March 2006 "No Strings Attached", upcoming album with Mr. Gambus @ Farid Ali
Roger's working on yet another album!

This time, he's collaborating with the very established and renowned Malaysian guitarist, Farid Ali (Farid Ali's Official Website), to produce their very first album, "No Strings Attached". Recently, Farid is also known internationally as the advocate for the gambus, an instrument that he feels should be revived. He spends a good deal of his time, giving workshops and performing with the gambus, in an attempt to create international awareness for this instrument.

Some of you may even have already heard both guitarists perform. As a prelude to the "No Strings Attached" project, Roger & Farid had performed in various locations in Kuala Lumpur and Johore in March 2006. Judging from the response from the audience and the vibe between both seasoned guitarists during these gigs, the upcoming album is a 2006 Must-Have!

Roger & Farid are currently juggling their busy schedules to record in both Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. Look out for the album launch by November 2006 and the "No Strings Attached: Album Launch" tour!
