Outstanding Young Person of Sabah 2007 award
The Junior Chamber International Kota Kinabalu named Roger "The Outstanding Young Person of Sabah" (TOYPS) for the Cultural & Artistic Achievement category at a grand gala dinner on September 9, 2007.

TOYPS is a prestigious award organised by the JCI to recognise young Sabahan and Malaysian individuals in Sabah who have dedicated themselves to the progress or welfare of the community at large. These individuals have excelled in their field of profession, practice and endeavour and while some are known by the public, others have worked in obscurity making them unsung heroes of their field.

Other winners of the award nclude Raymond Chan (Business, Economic or Entrepreneurial Accomplishment), Josephine Wan-Wen Hadikusumo (Contribution to children, world peace, nature or human rights), Adrian Lasimbang (Humanitarian and Voluntary Services) and Alex Lim Keng Liat (Personal Improvement and Accomplishment).

In accepting his award that night, Roger said that the award meant a lot to him because it represented recognition and approval from his home state. He rallied for more support young musicians in the state and encouraged musically-inclined youths to fully explore their talent.

August 2007 Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival 2007
It was a spectacular event, a successful festival, a magical evening for both audience and performers.

The first-ever Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival attracted 1,500 people, entertaining them non-stop from 6pm to midnight. More than 20 international, national and local musicians performrf at the Charity Concert on August 11 at the historical Jesselton Point overlooking the idyllic South China Sea.

The five performing groups were Denise Mininfield (USA), Son2nos (Venezuela), Farid Ali (KL), Double Take (Sabah's very own solo fingerstyle guitarist Roger Wang and vocalist, Mia Palencia) and Jazzelton Quintet (comprising June Tan on piano, Professor Hanafie Mohd Imam playing bass, Mohd Nizam Attan playing the violin, Jacek Adam Rubczak on saxophone and Mohd Shaun Yazeed on drums).

The inaugural Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival was jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu, Society for Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu Sabah (SPArKS), Suria Group and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK))

Organising Chairman Frankie K.O. Fu from the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu said the club has earmarked a number of community projects such as gravity feed water supply in Kota Marudu and Ranau, donations to poor schools in rural areas, and continuation of the Avoidable Blindness Programme.

Earlier in the day, two workshops were conducted by master musicians for enthusiastic members of the public at The Rock School, Likas Sports Complex Golf Driving Range. Lessons on drum and bass were held by drummer John Thomas and Professor Hanafie Mohd Imam while Farid Ali and Roger conducted the workshop on guitar and gambus.
